Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire is calling on people to do something spectacular this September to help local blind and partially sighted people.

The charity has launched three new challenges so everyone can get involved to make this September spectacular for local people with sight loss.

From cycling to walking or even simply staying in, everyone can do something, or you can choose your own challenge, to get behind the campaign and do something fun to help raise awareness and funds to support your local sight loss charity.

“Life under Covid-19 has been hard for all of us,” says Angela Gregory, Sight Support HEY’s Fundraising Manager. “But it has been, and continues to be, even harder for many people with sight loss.”

“Since lockdown began, Sight Support HEY has made over 4,000 telephone calls to local blind and partially sighted people. Many are feeling even more isolated than usual and experiencing high levels of anxiety and the easing of lockdown restrictions presents its own challenges too, with social distancing measures making everyday tasks daunting and confusing for many people with a visual impairment.”

“Your support can to ensure local people with sight loss have somewhere to turn for help and advice during these difficult times.”

As an independent local charity, Sight Support HEY receives no ongoing government funding and relies on fundraising donations from individuals, groups and companies in order to finance the day to day costs of providing its support services to people like Jean:

“I was so grateful when Sight Support’s Community Advice Officer, Jan, called. She is genuinely the only person who has contacted us to offer help and I feel that I now have got someone out there to support me and Michael in our hour of need.”

Right now, many of the charity’s usual public fundraising activities, events and challenges have had to be cancelled due to the impact of Covid-19 which has left a huge deficit in its financial budgets, so your support this September has never mattered more.
