Sight Support HEY will be celebrating the difference its volunteers make and thanking them for all their time and dedication during this year’s Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1st to 7th June.

Charities across the UK will also be holding events to thank their volunteers and celebrate the power of volunteering. Last year there were over 600 events across the country, from award ceremonies to tea parties and barbecues.

For many charities the week will be a chance to showcase the range of volunteering opportunities on offer. Volunteer fairs and other events will be encouraged people to try volunteering for the first time and help people find out how, through volunteering, they can make a difference to a cause they are passionate about.

Sight Support HEY’s volunteers will be celebrating along with staff and supporters on Monday 3rd June at a special tea party to mark the occasion.

“Some of our volunteers have been with us for over 15 years while others are fairly new additions to our team,” said Lucas Meagor, Volunteer Coordinator. “Our volunteers are involved in every aspect of what we do and we simply could not support the thousands of visually impaired people we do without their help. This is our small way of showing our appreciation of their valuable work.”

‘But volunteering is a two-way relationship,” explains Lucas. “Alongside their contribution to our local communities, volunteers can also benefit tremendously from the experience. From learning new skills, getting back into paid work, improving physical or mental well-being, or simply meeting interesting people and having fun.”

Whatever your interests, whatever your experience, there will probably be a volunteering opportunity with Sight Support HEY that will suit you. Some activities take place outside of “office hours” and you can give as little or as much time as you are able. You can find out more on our website.

Whether you simply have some free time and want to “give something back” or are looking for a change of direction and seeking work experience, Sight Support HEY would love to hear from you, so please contact us today. Call us on 01482 342297 or email
