Two Sight Support HEY volunteers have been shortlisted for presitgious regional awards in recognition of their longstanding support of local people with sight loss.

Angie Casey (pictured above) has been nominated in the Community Volunteer Award category and Carol Winter in the Trustee Award category of the regional Proud to BEE a Volunteer Awards organised by the HEY SMILE Foundation and partners; Nisa Local’s charity Making a Difference Locally and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Sandra Ackroyd, Chief Executive of Sight Support HEY said:

"Angie has volunteered with us for more than fifteen years helping in our Day Groups. Although visually impaired herself with glaucoma and cataracts, she works tirelessly to ensure other service users enjoy their day out and nothing is ever too much trouble. Her efforts ensure that visitors to our Day Groups enjoy their time socially with others in a relaxed and friendly environment.”

Angie herself said, “ I feel honoured to have been shortlisted for this award and would like to thank Sight Support for nominating me.”

“Carol has been a phenomenal fundraiser and supporter of Sight Support HEY for more than 25 years and now also helps guide the charity’s work having joined the Board of Trustees eight years ago. We are thrilled that her dedication and hard work has been noticed by the shortlisting committee," continued Sandra Ackroyd.

Carol (pictured above) said, “I’m absolutely thrilled about being nominated and shortlisted. It’s such a good cause and people don’t realise how lucky they are to have their vision”.

“We are very lucky to have people like Angie and Carol helping us to guide, deliver, and raise funds for, our support services which are helping to change lives of thousands of local people with sight loss,” said Sandra Ackroyd.

The winners of the Volunteer of the Year awards will be announced at a special ceremony on 16th October 2019.
