Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire is celebrating after being awarded £110,051 in funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
Sight Support will use this funding over the next three years to provide leisure and social opportunities to hundreds of local blind and partially sighted people.
This new National Lottery funding will help make a difference in the lives of visually impaired people by using activities and outings to help reduce social isolation and improve and the physical and mental wellbeing of local people with sight loss. The charity aims to increase its impact through weekly activities in sports, arts, creative projects, and events providing the service users with access to the support they need to thrive.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
Sandra Ackroyd, Chief Executive at Sight Support said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can help improve the lives of individuals living with visual impairments through the “Revitalise with SocialEYES” programme and activities, by providing an inclusive environment where they can explore their creativity.” She added “We’re excited about what we have planned and we know from previous experience, that these activities will make a big difference to people’s lives.”
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
