Two men. One Tandem. 24 Hours

Every so often, two people come along with an idea so bold, so ambitious, and so wonderfully questionable that we can’t help but cheer them on. This time, those two people are Luke and Dane, who have decided that riding a tandem bike from Southport to Hornsea in under 24 hours is not only possible… but a great idea.

Their challenge is more than just miles, muscles, and a worrying amount of trust in each other. For Luke, this journey carries a deeply personal meaning. Diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just four years old, he has lived with progressive sight loss for most of his life. Officially registered blind in 2012, he now has only a small amount of remaining vision which is why this adventure will take place on a tandem bike, with Dane bravely taking on the role of chief navigator, pilot, and “please don’t let us end up in the North Sea” specialist.

Luke and Dane are taking on this challenge to raise funds for Sight Support, helping us continue our work supporting blind and partially sighted people to live independently, confidently, and with the dignity they deserve. Their determination, humour, and willingness to push themselves for others is exactly the spirit that keeps our community strong.

This ride will be long. It will be tough. It will almost certainly involve moments where both of them question their life choices. But they’re doing it because they believe in the difference Sight Support makes and we couldn’t be more grateful.
