IT & Technology Support Services
Significant recent advances in technology have created many new opportunities for people to overcome everyday problems and challenges associated with sight loss. From using a smart phone to a tablet, magnification software to screen readers, we can demonstrate how these can be of benefit to you.
It is never too late to start learning and age isn't a barrier to develop computing skills.
If you are new to the world of computing and technology, you can make an appointment with our Training Officer who can offer a full assessment to see what product will suit your needs.
We offer teaching to suit each individual, ranging from simply learning how to switch the computer on and off to more complex issues. Learning is at each individual’s own pace.
Support and training is available on both Android and Apple products, so if you are looking to stay in touch with the world on the go, you can!
Assistive Technology Suite
Our Assistive Technology Suite at our entre on Beverley Road in Hull is specifically equipped for users with a visual impairment. It offers a private and quiet space in which we deliver both workshops and personal tuition. You can be shown how to use computers, E-mails, the internet, word processing or online shopping. It’s all possible!
We can also demonstrate equipment and advise you on the best products to suit your personal needs.
Help at home
Where you are unable to attend our entre and/or for people living in East Yorkshire, our home visiting technology service will help you set up and familiarise you with your computer, mobile phone or tablet.
We can show you how a few simple changes, such as enlarging the text, adjusting the resolution, choosing a different colour or using speech software can help you to use your technology in the way that you want to and to open up a whole new world of opportunities for greater independence.
For more information or to book an appointment, please contact our Training Officer by calling us on 01482 342297 or emailing [email protected].
All tuition is provided free of charge to any visually impaired person, however donations are always very welcome.
“Thank you so much for your help. It’s brilliant what I can now do on my own computer. I’m trying out what you showed me and doing all sorts of things. Still a lot to learn but am so happy.”
