Telephone Befriending

A man talking on the telephone.

Our Telephone Befriending service offers a friendly phone call from a trained person with knowledge of, or personal experience of, sight loss.

Not having someone to talk to regularly can be lonely and isolating, particularly if you’re used to sharing your home and time with others. A friendly chat on the phone can make all the difference.

Our Telephone Befriending service offers a friendly phone call from a trained person with knowledge of, or personal experience of, sight loss. In addition, if anyone requires further support, our telephone befrienders can also organise for one of our Community Advice Officers to visit.

The service aims to:

  • Reduce social isolation
  • Promote independence
  • Improve self-confidence
  • Improve health and emotional well being
  • Empower service users to access local social, community and leisure activities

If you, or someone you know, would welcome a friendly phone call once or twice a month from one of our team, please contact our Telephone Befriending Coordinator on 01482 342297 or by emailing [email protected].

The Telephone Befriending Scheme is completely confidential and calls can be stopped at any time.

“I look forward to my befriender’s calls on a Monday morning. He's more often than not the first person I speak to for 2-3 days. It's a well enjoyed break for me to have someone I can talk to and I enjoy the conversation.”
“I think it's marvellous that you call every week. These calls make people know they're not forgotten about.”
