Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire Welcomes Sighted Individuals to Join Day Group Service for the First Time in 160 Years
For the first time in its 160-year history, Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire is opening its Hull Day Group service to sighted individuals. This ground-breaking initiative aims to address issues of loneliness as well as foster inclusivity, build stronger community ties, and enhance mutual understanding between sighted and visually impaired people.
Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire has a long-standing history of providing essential services and support to visually impaired individuals. Established in 1864, the charity has been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those with sight loss through various programs, including advice on aids and equipment, technology training, emotional support, and social and leisure opportunities.
Project Better Together is funded by the Two Ridings Community Foundation and will operate in partnership with Hull Community Transport. By inviting sighted individuals to join its Hull Day Groups on a Monday and Tuesday, Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire aims to help address issues of social isolation and loneliness within the wider sighted community.
The Day Groups will offer transport to and from home, a subsidised hot meal plus a variety of engaging activities such quizzes, boccia, dominoes and musical entertainment to name a few. All activities are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
“We are incredibly excited to open our Day Group service to sighted individuals for the first time in our history,” said Claire Balfour, Services Manager at Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire. “This initiative is about addressing issues of loneliness as well as breaking down barriers and building a more inclusive community where everyone, regardless of their visual ability, can join in and benefit.”
