Carol Winter

Sight Support Hull & East Yorkshire

Now in her 70's, Carol has been fundraising for almost 30 years and has been a trustee for the last ten years. Over the years Carol has organised an amazing variety of events from sponsored walks to charity balls, quizzes to runs, bike rides to fancy dress nights, karaoke nights to store collections.

Carol has run the Great North Run a number of times on behalf of Sight Support and came out of retirement after having a hip replacement operation in 2018 to complete the 40th anniversary race this year. She ran her first marathon in Edinburgh in 2011 and these activities along with her many other fundraising events have raised many thousands of pounds for Sight Support.

When asked what keeps her going, Carol says, “It’s the thought of not being able to see. People don’t realise how lucky they are. Close your eyes for just five minutes and try to do all those simple things you take for granted when you can’t see what you’re doing. It’s such a frightening thought.”
