Beech Holme Tandem Club

The Beech Holme Tandem Club is based at Sight Support Beverley Road, Hull and was formed in 1950 by Cliff Pratt (a well known local cycle retailer) and his fellow members of the Cycling Touring Club (now known as Cycling UK) so that visually impaired back riders could enjoy the pleasures of cycling through the countryside with sighted front riders

And some 70 plus years on the Club is still doing this.

The Club goes out every Wednesday night throughout the year (unless foggy or icy) cycling 20 to 25 miles around the East Riding and sometimes North Lincolnshire leaving at 7.30 pm and getting back around 11.00 pm. There is always a halfway stop at a local hostelry which gives the opportunity for a rest and a drink.

The Club also undertakes a number of Sunday rides during the year which enables longer distance rides to take place.

Back up support is provided by a Sight Support mini bus which together with very experienced front riders makes for safe and interesting cycling.

The Club also cycles further away with cycling weekends and an annual week’s cycling holiday.

The Club have visited France, Belgium and the Netherlands on numerous occasions.

The Club is always looking for new members both sighted and visually impaired. You don’t need to be an experienced cyclist or be super fit. Training is given and cycling strength is built up over many months. It will be one of the best and most enjoyable things you will ever do.

The club has an excellent “fleet” of modern, well maintained tandems donated by private individuals and/or funded by local organisations.

In recent months the club has ridden to Old Ellerby, Brantingham, Little Weighton, South Cave, Skidby, Lelley.
